The Walker Warehouse which was originally constructed in 1897, is located in the heart of historic downtown Durham and was the first of the parapet/chimney Italianate style brick warehouses built, and would be used as a model for multiple others in the old American Tobacco Company district during this time period.
Progressive Contracting Company, Inc. (PCCI) has been awarded this contract for the renovation of 9,560 square feet interior alteration of the 30,000 square feet for the future home of the Durham Amtrak Station. This part of the project will coincide with the new concrete platform and
canopy also constructed by PCCI as a means of egress for passengers traveling daily with Amtrak. Renovations have been decided to protect the historical integrity of the shell building which include:
new interior partitions
trim carpentry
casework
finishes
custom acoustical and tectum wall panels
acoustical ceiling tiles
gypsum board ceilings
new entrance storefronts
glass and glazing
fire sprinkler modifications
new plumbing
new electrical
HVAC ductwork and rooftop units
