MEZ is a contemporary Mexican restaurant conveniently located in the heart of the Triangle, between Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, NC. North Carolina’s first LEED Silver designed restaurant. The newest venture from the Chapel Hill Restaurant Group (CHRG) who have reduced its solid waste by 60% in the last ten years through extensive recycling, composting, and collecting all used cooking oils for use as bio fuels.

Progressive Contracting Company, Inc. (PCCI) was excited to be a part of the LEED program for this restaurant which was designed as a tool for market-based transformation of building practices and standards. The intent of the design was to create healthier environments for occupants and patrons and promote sustainability within the local community.

The general contracting services in which PCCI provided were to upfit this restaurant to meet the requirements of LEED Silver and obtain a pleasant dining experience. PCCI was responsible for and successfully obtained the following credits:

Credit 2.1 – Construction Waste Management, divert 50% from disposal
Credit 2.2 – Construction Waste Management, divert 75% from disposal
Credit 4.1 – Recycled Content, 10%
Credit 4.2 – Recycled Content, 20%
Credit 5.1 – Regional Materials, 10%
Credit 5.2 – Regional Materials, 20%
Credit 3.1 – Construction IAQ Management Plan, during construction
Credit 4.1 – Low Emitting Materials, adhesives & sealants
Credit 4.2 – Low Emitting Materials, paint & coatings
Credit 4.3 – Low Emitting Materials, carpet systems
